Dr Nokubonga Mazibuko

Secretary

Dr Nokubonga Nokwanda Mazibuko is the Chair of the Gender Forum at the University of Mpumalanga and a Senior Lecturer in Gender Studies. She is an executive member of the Anthropology Southern Africa Association and serves as a reviewer for scholarly publications in the fields of gender and society. She is also a co-editor of the forthcoming book The Feminization of Poverty in the Global South: Policy, Practice, and Transformative Strategies, currently in production with IGI Global Scientific Publishing.

Her teaching and research interests include culture, gender, sexual and reproductive health. She supervises master's and doctoral students and contributes to curriculum development across all year levels within the discipline.

After only six years in academia as an anthropologist, Dr. Mazibuko was appointed as a Commissioner for the Commission on Khoi-San Matters within the National Department of Traditional Affairs. In this role, she served on the Research and Investigations Committee and, during her tenure, managed and hosted the inaugural Khoi-San Research Symposium - the first of its kind in South Africa.

Dr. Mazibuko's scholarship is grounded in a human-centered approach that bridges academic research and community engagement. Her work draws on ethnographic methods to generate contextually relevant knowledge and to inform academic, policy, and community-based initiatives.
