Abstract
The outbreak of anti-immigrant violence in May 2008 has prompted a set of theoretical questions and a reappraisal of theoretical suppositions. While the attacks have in the mainstream been pervasively presented as xenophobia, I argue in this paper that what is termed xenophobia is in fact racism – New Racism – practiced by people of the same population group, which has characterized post-1994 South African black social relations.
