
Committees
1. Resource Development
Responsible for strengthening ASnA’s financial sustainability by identifying and approaching potential funders, developing fundraising opportunities, and working with Communications to position the association as an attractive and credible organisation for funding and partnership.
3. Scholarly Contributions
Supports ASnA’s contribution to anthropological scholarship through the development and continued strengthening of its journal. The subcommittee will work alongside the relevant editorial and organisational structures on matters relating to the journal, including its ongoing development, visibility and the renewal of its publishing contract. It will also consider ways of using the journal to support and showcase anthropological scholarship across the region.
5. Mentorship and Mutual Learning
Responsible for creating opportunities for members to learn from and support one another, with particular attention to student and early career development. This includes developing mentorship initiatives, skills development activities and spaces for knowledge sharing across different stages of academic and professional life.
2. Community Engagement
Responsible for building an active and connected ASnA community through events, programmes and initiatives that bring members together. This includes coordinating flagship activities such as the Pre-conference Student Conference and Anthropology in the World annual event.
4. Ethical and Compassionate Practice
Responsible for promoting ethical, accountable and compassionate practice across ASnA. This includes reviewing and developing ethical guidelines, facilitating ethics workshops, and supporting members to uphold appropriate standards of ethical conduct in their professional and scholarly work.
6. Collaboration and Interdisciplinary
Strengthens ASnA’s networks across disciplines, institutions and geographical boundaries. Expands membership and participation beyond South Africa, strengthening engagement across the broader Southern African region, and identifying anthropologists internationally who can contribute meaningfully to ASnA and participate actively in its structures.
7. Communications
This committee acts as an extension of ASnA, reinforcing its presence and engagement within anthropology and related fields. Its is to enhance to the association’s work, research, and activities for members, students, researchers, and the wider public
